Music meme that others have done

Step 1: Put your music player on shuffle.
Step 2: Post the first line from the first 40 songs that play, no matter how embarrassing.
Step 3: Strike through the songs when someone guesses both artist and track correctly. (A bunch of insane covers popped up here, so a good enough guess works for me.)
Step 4: Looking them up on Google or any other search engine is CHEATING!
Step 5: If you like the game post your own.

32 is "Tempted" by Squeeze. I'm too tired to get any of the others (well, the non-obvious others) without Googling, and I'm not a dirty cheat. Hah!

In other news, I'm amused by the similarity between 33 & 34.
Ooops! Bad editing skills there. It's fixed now.
I know 23 is The Cure but the song title escapes me. I'll go ahead and claim Peter Gabriel's "Solsbury Hill" on 22, because hey, I'm a big PG fan so I deserve it.

I'll come back later when/if I'm more awake...
Actually it was Erasure's cover of Solsbury Hill, but it's close enough.
I'm a doofus. I saw the "cover" bit and didn't mention in my comment that I was claiming the original.

I claim "way tired like whoah." That's my defense and I'm sticking to it...
It' okay. I don't know how many people have even heard Erasure's version. (Which is surprisingly good, though the original is better.)
I think we have the same musical tastes! I'm stopping now and I left a lot there. I think I have almost all of these on my ipod as well

2. Do Re Mi -- The Sound of Music
3. Taxi -- Harry Chapin
4. Bring Him Home -- Les Miserbles
7. Midnight Blue -- Melissa Manchester?
12 Wild Fire -- Michael something
19 Dancing Queen -- Abba
24 Let Him In -- Wings (or someone's knocking at the door, I can never remember the title)
33. The Best of Times - Styxx
Yes to all of them.

I didn't even know I had the Melissa Manchester song on the thing until it plyed.
16. "Mrs. Robinson" by Simon & Garfunkel
23. "Just Like Heaven" by The Cure
25. "Wishing, Hoping" by Dusty Springfield ♥
26. "Video Killed the Radio Star" by The Buggles
28. Meme twins! "A Little Respect".
38. "Psycho Killer" by Talking Heads
40. "Age of Aquarius" from...Hair? I am bad at musicals.
Meme twin powers activate!

I love Dusty Springfield, too.
I think [info]sassachusetts is right with #16 being "Mrs. Robinson." I think she's more or less right with #40, except I *think* the song is just called "Aquarius" and is from Hair.

The only other one I know is # 20 is "Don't Cry for Me Argentina" from Evita.
Right you are. I think it says something about just how gay I am that I have four or five different versions of "Don't Cry for me, Argentina" on my iPod.

musicals ftw

15. "Light My Candle"/Rent. Do I need singers? Adam Pascal and um...I couldn't tell you who original Mimi is, I just know Rosario Dawson played her in the movie.
16. "Here's to You Mrs. Robinson"/Simon and Garfunkle
20. "Don't Cry For Me, Argentina"/Evita. And all I got is Madonna.
25. I know this song! I just can never remember the actual title and I have no idea who sings it. So I'm going to guess "All I Gotta Do"/Some Gal and the So-and-Sos.

Re: musicals ftw

While I have the Madonna version on my ipod, this was the original broadway cast recording.

I have at least four versions of that song on my ipod, Scary.
I'm not looking at anyone else's answers and I'm answering everything I know that hasn't already been struckthrough.

11. You Might Think - The Cars
15. Light My Candle - RENT (<3)
16. Mrs. Robinson - Simon and Garfunkle
17. I Only Want To Be With You - Hootie and the Blowfish
25. Wishing and Hoping - Dusty Springfield
26. Video Killed the Radio Star - The Buggles (or the Presidents of the United States of America)
40. Aquarius - Hair
Yup to all of them.
9. Sail Away by Enya
34. Push by Matchbox 20
Yes!

I'm kind of surprised that Sail Away took so long to identify.
Technically, "Orinoco Flow (Sail Away)," and since the title's in the line it counts as one of the obvious ones I was leaving alone. *wry grin*
Yes, you're right, and it was one of the ones with the title in it.

At least it wasn't Adiemus, or I'd have put something like "Words in Latin? Hawaiian? What languages are they?"
I think some people just don't want to admit to owning the Pure Moods cds.
Please. I own the Enya CD the song was on. (Watermark, I think.)
16. Mrs Robinson, Simon and Garfunkel
17. Only want to be with you, Hootie
21. U2, but I'm blanking on the title (I'm running it through my head now)
25. Wishing and Hoping. I have no idea who sings this, but it makes me think of the opening to My Best Friend's Wedding
28. Erasure - a little respect
Yes, to all of it.
#36: "Up Where We Belong" Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warnes.
#39: "Beast of Burden", Rolling Stones
Yup to both. Part of me is surprised that the Cocker/Warnes song took so long to identify. When it was released, it was *the* love song.
